NAME

pid - Process Identification Utilities

SYNOPSIS

OS: Windows 95,95,ME, 2000, XP (not NT)
package require Tcl 8
package require pid 0.9

::pid::ps List processes by executable name and PID
::pid::kill kill process by PID

DESCRIPTION

This package gives TCL programmers the functionality of 'ps' and 'kill' on a Windows® OS.

This document describes the procedures and explains their usage.

PROCEDURES

This package defines the following public procedures:
::pid::ps
Returns a list of two-element process lists. Each process list includes the executable name and PID (unsigned integer, decimal format) of that process.
::pid::kill pid
Kills the process corresponding to the given PID (unsigned integer, decimal format)

EXAMPLE

Get the current list of processes, ensuring that all names are lowercase for consistency:

set psList [string tolower [pid::ps]]

Kill all instances of IEXPLORE.EXE:

foreach {i} $psList {
set pName [lindex $i 0]
set pid [lindex $i 1]
if { [string match *iexplore* $pName] } {
puts "Killing closed-source browser process '$pName'"
pid::kill $pid
}
}
